I have now spent $600,000 on the mystery boxes trying for the 20 clams and have come up empty. 1% my ass. Either I had the crappiest streak ever or maybe they put the percent at .51 and rounded up. So incredibly disappointing.

My streak hasn't been too bad.. I don't think it's quite 1% but, it's not far off.
I blew $1.1 mil of in-game cash on the 4th of July boxes. (And yes.. I'm a freemium player.. cash I have (had) tons of.. clams not so much).
I won 20 clams a total of 5 times! But now I have the following in my inventory (in addition to lots on my land):
Pocket Firework x 167
Pixie firework x 206
Sunburst firework x 161
Colossal firework x 93
White Patriotic flowers x 104
And I won coins a ton of times.. sometimes three or four times in a row.
Now I only have $24k left in game.. but I have an office farm, so it'll come back quickly.

Clearing 2 of the mini plots blocking out the new area! At first I saw the new forest area, then when scrolling over there saw the new area. Excited since I didn't have anything going on. Finally new quests and characters! Wonder if I was added to the game!

More land and new districts! A pleasant surprise to come back to this evening. I see what they did there: make us spend our coins on Rupert and then give us land which requires beau coup coins! Glad I kept a nice reserve! Now let's get into those new districts.

I'm happy with the update so far.. little preview of what to expect in the coming week (I presume), more land which I think everyone wanted and more characters!
The only flaw I can spot is the price of clearing the land at the top of Quahog, it's going to cost 225K in total to unlock, which is quite a large amount. I'm thinking of unlocking the ones near Asian Town and the new districts first in preparation for the districts unlocking then gradually unlocking the top ones, anyone else have a plan of action?
