has anyone participated in this event? You may have seen people on Twitter with the hashtag #ALSIceBucketChallenge and/or #StrikeOutALS, some of your favorite actors or athletes taking part, or seen your friends on Facebook posting vids, and thought "What In The World Are They Doing?"
i first noticed this awareness tactic about 2 or 3 weeks ago when i saw some of my favorite NHL Players doing it. i researched it a little more and found out that it is for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) and it is "a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord." This Ice Bucket Challenge is to spread awareness of the disease, and participants are asked to donate $5 or more to help research this disease. Since this Challenge began weeks ago, the ALS Association has received $53.3 Million in donations
For those that are unaware of the Challenge, in order to take part, all you need is a bucket, container, tote, can, etc. Fill container with ice and water...preferably water first, then add the ice for cooler temp (especially if it's a hot day), then say something into the camera about...can be a personal take on the disease, Challenge as many people you know to participate, then dump container on your head. AHHHH! REFRESHING!
I participated with my business partner yesterday (8/21/2014). i did 1 as a business owner where i was calm and professional, and 1 personal where i was being my own crazy self xD. i then made 2 donations to the ALS website...1 by the business credit card, and another personal donation.
I have known one person over the course of my life to have this disease. was a gentleman who frequented my part-time job. he went from walking, to limping, to having to need crutches, to wheel chair 24/7 in a matter of a few years. it's saddening that this disease can effect our fellow man like that.
for more information, please visit www.alsa.org make a donation and let's find a cure for this horrible disease.
MK's Personal Take...get involved in charities folks. research what charities best work and fit your philosophy, just be aware that there are Scammers out there that take advantage of good-hearted individuals. always research an organization FULLY before being apart of it.
